Call For Papers

The 12th Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare (DMBIH’24) Workshop

In conjunction with the IEEE ICDM 2024

Abu Dhabi, UAE, December 9-12, 2024

The 12th Workshop on Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare aims to provide a forum for data miners, informaticists, data scientists, AI researchers and clinical researchers to share their latest investigations in applying data mining combined with AI techniques to biomedical and healthcare data. The increasing availability of large and complex data sets to the research community, triggers the need to develop more advanced and sophisticated data analytical techniques to exploit and manage these big data. The broader context of the workshop comprehends artificial intelligence, information retrieval, machine learning, deep learning and knowledge extraction methods using biomedical image analysis and natural language processing. Submissions are invited to address the need for developing new methods to mine, summarize and integrate the huge volume and diverse modalities of the structured and unstructured biomedical and healthcare data that can potentially lead to significant advances in the field.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Application of machine learning methods (e.g., classification, clustering, anomaly detection, topic modeling) to big biomedical data in the electronic health records (EHR)
  • Application of deep learning methods to clinical data in the EHR
  • Application of large language models to clinical textual data in the EHR
  • Data preprocessing and cleansing to deal with noise and missing data in large biomedical or population health datasets
  • Algorithms to speed up the analysis of big biomedical data
  • Novel visualization techniques to facilitate the query and analysis of clinical data
  • Statistics and probability in large-scale data mining
  • Evidence-based medicine
  • Time series biomedical data analysis
  • Medical image data mining
  • HIPAA compliance data mining
  • Pharmacogenomics data mining
  • Biological markers detection
  • Biological and clinical data analysis and integration for translational research
  • Computational genetics, genomics and proteomics
  • Multimodal data mining
  • Social media data analysis for healthcare applications

Important Dates

  • Workshop paper submission: September 10, 2024
  • Workshop paper notification of acceptance: October 7, 2024
  • Camera-ready deadline and copyright forms: October 11, 2024
  • Conference dates: December 9 - 12, 2024
  • Workshop Date: December 9, 2024

Submission and Procedures

Paper submissions will be done through the IEEE ICDM Workshop CyberChair submission system. To submit a paper, visit the following webpage: (https://www.wi-lab.com/cyberchair/2024/icdm24/scripts/submit.php?subarea=DM).

Paper submissions should be limited to a maximum of ten (10) pages, in the IEEE 2-column format (https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html) , including the bibliography and any possible appendices. Submissions longer than 10 pages will be rejected without review. All submissions will be triple-blind reviewed by the Program Committee on the basis of technical quality, relevance to scope of the conference, originality, significance, and clarity. All accepted workshop papers will be published in formal proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society Press. One paper will be selected for the best paper award, which will be awarded at the workshop.

*Online Attendance Option*: In light of potential hesitancy for international traveling, we are considering providing an online attendance option for the ICDM workshops. This would cater to those who may face travel restrictions or have concerns about in-person attendance.
