Biography

William Casey King is the executive director of the Yale Center for Analytical Sciences at the Yale School of Public Health. He launched a global training initiative in the open source analytic language "R" to afford researchers in developing countries a free alternative to costly commercial software licenses.

William Casey King earned his Ph.D. from Yale University. His work includes a PBS documentary on the life and works of the African American painter, Henry Ossawa Tanner, co-produced with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and a children's book on the civil rights movement titled “Oh, Freedom!”. He also authored a book on the Problem of Ambition in America's Self-Making, which details the transformation of ambition from vice to virtue in the early modern Atlantic world. Dr. King served at Harvard as executive director of the W.E.B. DuBois Institute of African and African American Research.

Dr. King is also involved with the Yale Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA), New England's only National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded AIDS research center, which works extensively in Africa and Latin America.
