Biography

Dr. Sumit Jamwal is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale University School of Medicine. His research focuses on immune dysregulation in sickle cell disease (SCD) and aging, with emphasis on impaired adaptive immune responses, vaccine efficacy, and mechanisms driving chronic inflammation. Working with transgenic mouse models, gene mutation systems, and clinical cohorts, he investigates how dysfunctional B and T cell immunity contributes to poor vaccine responses and increased susceptibility to infections in SCD and older adults.

With over a decade of experience in neuropharmacology, neuroscience and neuroimmunology, Dr. Jamwal has published influential work on neuroprotection and oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. He brings strong expertise in rodent behavioral studies, molecular biology, and translational immunology, enabling an interdisciplinary approach to disease mechanisms.

He has authored and co-corresponded papers in leading journals and has been recognized as a key contributor to redox research by the International Society of Neurochemistry and Society for Redox Biology & Medicine (SRBM). In addition, he serves as Associate Editor for Geriatric Pharmacology and topic editor for Frontiers journals. His long-term goal is to translate mechanistic insights into therapeutic and preventive strategies for vulnerable populations.
