Biography

Dr. Murat Basar is a highly experienced embryologist and research scientist with over 15 years of expertise in assisted reproductive technologies and developmental biology. He is an Associate Research Scientist and Senior Embryologist at Yale University School of Medicine, specializing in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Infertility. He is also Associate Director of the Yale Sperm Physiology Laboratory and the Yale Endocrinology Laboratory, contributing to translational research that bridges molecular science and clinical fertility care.

Dr. Basar earned his Ph.D. in Integrated Reproductive Biology and Embryology through a joint program between the Istanbul University Institute of Health Sciences and the Yale University School of Medicine. His career includes pivotal leadership roles such as IVF Laboratories Operations Manager at Bahceci Health Group, overseeing eight laboratories across five countries, and Laboratory Director at Johns Hopkins Anadolu Medical Center. He has also served in academia as an Assistant Professor at Biruni University Medical Faculty.

His research interests span embryonic stress-related pregnancy complications, the pathogenesis of endometriosis, and endometriosis-associated pain. Most notably, Dr. Basar has led groundbreaking investigations into the effects of spaceflight on female reproductive aging, exploring how microgravity impacts oocyte quality, mitochondrial health, and long-term reproductive potential. His work in this area has earned recognition within space biosciences and has critical implications for the future of women’s health in space exploration.

A recognized expert in advanced reproductive techniques, Dr. Basar specializes in trophoectoderm biopsy, mitochondrial function analysis, and quality control and assurance (QC/QA) protocols in IVF laboratories. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, has presented at major international conferences, and remains a dedicated advocate for evidence-based laboratory practices.

Dr. Basar is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), the Turkish Histology and Embryology Association, and the Turkish Society of Clinical Embryology, where he served as a board member from 2019 to 2021.
