Biography

Dr. Ki Eun (Kay) Shin is a Research Scientist at the Yale Child Study Center. Dr. Shin received her BA in Psychology and Applied Mathematics from Northwestern Unversity, MS and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University, and completed a research postdoctoral fellowship at Teachers College, Columbia University. Over the past 13 years, Dr. Shin’s research has focused on internalizing disorders and suicide, with an emphasis on identifying underlying cognitive and emotional mechanisms and developing novel approaches to assess and modify them. Her recent work leverages mobile app–based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to identify cognitive and emotional processes that prospectively predict suicidal thoughts among adolescents in daily life. Dr. Shin’s work has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, and she has received awards for early-career researchers from the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (JCCAP) Future Directions Forum.
