Clinical Care

Overview

Kavya Mekala, MD, is an endocrinologist who focuses on bone health and thyroid disease. She manages bone and mineral metabolism disorders, including osteoporosis, hyperparathyroidism, and inherited skeletal disorders at the Yale New Haven Health Long Ridge Medical Center, Stamford.

She also sees patients with thyroid conditions including thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer, primarily at the Endocrine Neoplasia Clinic in the Smilow Cancer Hospital.

Dr. Mekala notes that she was always interested in life sciences and that it was natural for her to enter the medical field.

“What I love about endocrinology is that it involves getting to the bottom of complex problems where the solution might not be obvious,” she says. “You must use a systematic approach to put the pieces together and find a diagnosis. Being able to offer patients solutions to these complex endocrine issues is gratifying.”

Dr. Mekala also believes in developing strong relationships with her patients and advocates for shared decision-making. “I am mindful of how important it is to have that patient-physician trust to ensure that a therapeutic plan is successful,” she notes.
