Overview
Adam Berkwitt, MD, is a professor of pediatrics who specializes in pediatric hospital medicine (PHM), providing comprehensive care for hospitalized children. His clinical practice addresses a wide range of inpatient conditions, such as asthma, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, dehydration, and many other conditions including neonatal abstinence syndrome, a condition affecting newborns who have been exposed to certain substances before birth. Dr. Berkwitt works closely with families to guide patients toward recovery as quickly as possible and ensure a smooth transition to home.
Dr. Berkwitt’s research interests include family-centered care, diagnostic decision-making and value-based clinical decisions. He works as the director of the Pediatric Care Signature Clinical Pathways Program, helping reduce unwanted variations in care across the healthcare system. He also serves as the program director of the PHM Fellowship, a 2-year program dedicated to training the next generation of board-certified pediatric hospitalists.
Dr. Berkwitt completed his medical training at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and pursued an internship and residency in pediatrics at Yale New Haven Hospital, including an extra year as chief pediatric resident. When not providing clinical care, updating clinical pathways or training PHM fellows, Dr. Berkwitt enjoys playing guitar, crossword puzzles, reading fiction, watching NY sports and dog walks.
