Electron Microscopy

The Electron Microscopy (EM) Laboratory at Yale Pathology has been a leader in diagnostic electron microscopy since its inception in the early 1960s. We are a high-volume facility, receiving over 1,200 specimens annually, that provides our clients with a full range of diagnostic services for both adult and pediatric patients. We specialize in diagnostic ultrastructural pathology at the highest level of accuracy with a fast turnaround time. Our team of Electron Microscopy Technologists brings over 40 years of experience & expertise to the handling, processing, and examination of EM specimens. We accept kidney, cardiac, skin, muscle, nerve, liver, ciliary brushes and biopsies, platelet, duodenum, and neoplastic tissue samples. Our EM laboratory has special protocols to handle sub-optimal specimens by performing EM studies on paraffin embedded tissue blocks or on H&E sections mounted on glass slides.
