In the latest Q&A spotlight in a series highlighting Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) community members and their work, meet Maria Carmela "Mic" T. Rigunay, MD, who joined YCSC and Yale New Haven Hospital as a developmental-behavioral pediatrics fellow in July. She began her career as a nurse and later became a physician, subsequently serving as a clinical instructor at St. George’s University in Grenada. Her research interests include infancy, early child development, and sensory impairments.

What led you to your current career?
Curiosity, need, and my dream of having a career focused on building good relationships with parents and their families. I've always loved working with kids!
What do you value most about your work?
I love everything about developmental-behavioral pediatrics, and I am especially appreciative of how exceptionally caring my supervisors and colleagues are. They—along with the patients and families—make learning and working so much more special.
What do you do when you're not working?
Spending time with my shih tzus, Lukesky and Petrie, and doing all things artsy (appreciating or creating!)
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
To all of the Formula 1 locations in the race calendar!
