YCSC Community Spotlight: Meet Joanne Richardson
What led you to your current career?
Parties! I love throwing parties and events and what better way to do what you love at home and at work. My main job at the office is to coordinate and run events for YCEI, whether they are virtual, at an external location, or in person at Yale. Making sure every detail is covered and each and every person attending the event feels special.
What is a work-related accomplishment that made you feel proud?
Coordinating our in-person RULER conferences with over 700 guests. I was able to meet and connect with so many people from all over the world.
What energizes you (activities, roles, hobbies, or otherwise) outside of work?
I love playing pickleball and doing crafts like chair-caning and flower arrangements.
How would you describe your social and/or cultural identities ?
Italian American, volunteer, athlete, and a good cook, too!
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Outgoing, energetic, and friendly
What is an accomplishment you are proud of outside of work/your current job ?
Raising my three sons with my husband.
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be ?
Italy, to visit where my grandparents lived in the mountains.
What would you like to share that might surprise your colleagues ?
Two of my sons are Eagle Scouts and I hiked over 50 miles in one weekend with them on Bear Mountain, part of the Appalachian trail in New York. In January 2026, I plan on retiring after working 23 years at The Consultation Center, Inc. (an affiliate of Yale University) and then 10 years as a Yale employee!
