Animal Model of Absence or "Spike-and-Wave" Seizures

Systemic injection of high doses of penicillin in the cat results in the slow transformation of normal spindle waves into "spike-and-wave" seizures. These results further indicate that absence seizures may be a perverse form of thalamocortical rhythm.
