Block of Inhibition Results in an Unbalanced Network and the Generation of Large Barrages of EPSPs

Voltage clamp recordings of synaptic currents at different membrane potentials before and after block of inhibition with local application of the GABAA antagonist picrotoxin. Note that after the block of inhibition, the network generates large excitatory synaptic events indicative of an unbalanced network. These results indicate that cortical inhibition keeps the network in check and balanced.
