YCSC Grand Rounds Viola Bernard Lecture

"Using Big Data for Child Mental Health Research"

Niranjan Karnik , MD, PhD, is an internationally recognized leader in psychiatry and behavioral health innovation. In this talk, he will explore the emerging role of big data in advancing understanding of child and adolescent mental health. He will also address how large-scale datasets—from electronic health records and social media signals to population-level surveys and wearable devices—offer unprecedented opportunities to identify risk factors, track outcomes, and inform early intervention. The session will also address ethical responsibilities related to collecting and analyzing sensitive data on minors.


This session is part of annual lecture series named in honor of Viola Bernard, MD, and supported by the Viola W. Bernard Fund for Innovation in Mental Health Care. Lectures focus on topics related to equitable access to health care, innovative mental health services, and more.
