Axon Degeneration

Degeneration — the same five axons, distal to the injury: beading, then myelin ovoids, then granular debris and a macrophage clearing it.

Description

Introduction

Mitochondrial defects are tightly linked to axon degeneration, yet the underlying cellular mechanisms remain poorly understood. In Caenorhabditis elegans, PVQ axons that lack mitochondria degenerate spontaneously with age.
