Taimur Kouser, MD, MA

Taimur grew up in East Tennessee. He graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. joint honors degree in Neuroscience & Philosophy and a language citation in Modern Standard Arabic. He served as a student leader on the Honor Council, as a representative on multiple faculty committees, and as a peer mental health counselor. His undergraduate thesis focused on connectomics and included an analysis of human cortical layer 1 and implications of connectomics on theories of mind and personal identity. He then graduated from Duke University with an M.A. in Bioethics, Tech Ethics, and Science Policy and completed his Fulbright research in Neurophilosophy at Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany, where he built on his undergraduate research on connectomics. He graduated with his M.D. from Stanford School of Medicine with a scholarly concentration in Clinical Research and Neuroscience. He served as a leader of the Stanford Muslim Medical Association and as a student representative on the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Policy. His research thus far has focused on bioethics, Muslim mental health, and Alzheimer’s disease. His work has been published in the American Journal of Bioethics, the Journal of Religion and Health, and in outlets like USA Today and the Washington Post. In his free time, he enjoys catching up with family and friends and pursuing his plant-parent goals with varying success.
