Overview
Dr. Uddin's research program utilizes both infectious diseases and biomedical engineering, with a central focus on periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). Drawing on his undergraduate training in biomedical engineering and electronics systems, he seeks to advance the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of implant-associated infections through interdisciplinary approaches. His work encompasses PJI biomarker development, antibiotic-impregnated biomaterials, and novel diagnostic strategies aimed at improving outcomes for patients with prosthetic joint and device-related infections. Additionally, Dr. Uddin maintains an active interest in antimicrobial therapeutics, with published research on antibiotic treatment strategies for community-acquired pneumonia and clinical investigations of tick-borne and neurotropic infections. His global health research, conducted with colleagues in other countries to evaluate treatment in resource-limited settings. Dr. Uddin's long-term goal is to build a clinical and translational research program that leverages engineering principles to develop next-generation solutions for musculoskeletal infections.
