Biography

Marianne Casilla-Lennon, MD is an Assistant Professor in Urology and the Director of Medical Education in Urology at Yale. She is the incoming interim Division Chief of Urology of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs.

Dr. Lennon plays a leading role in medical education at Yale. As the Director of Medical Education, she oversees medical student curricula including pre-clinical didactics, clinical rotations, and is the co-leader of the multidisciplinary Surgical Anatomy elective. In addition, she developed and directs the Medical Education Resident Fellowship in Urology to engage residents in the teaching process. Beyond this, she mentors students and residents throughout many stages of their careers and strives to increase early exposure to urology and build a urology workforce that reflects the urologic patient population.

As a comprehensive urologist, Dr. Lennon has research interests that span the breadth of urology, from oncology, fertility, and voiding dysfunction, as well as the impact of her education and workforce projects. She has published original research in high-impact journals including The Journal of Urology, Gold Journal of Urology, Academic Medicine, and The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her work on financial toxicity in bladder cancer helped define the impact of cost-related barriers on treatment delays and quality of life. while her education-focused scholarship has evaluated scalable approaches to increasing medical student engagement and preparedness for surgical careers.

Her clinical focus is broad, where she cares for both men and women, with expertise in kidney stones, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, benign prostatic hyperplasia, urinary tract obstruction and more. She is skilled in minimally invasive, open, and office-based urologic procedures.

Dr. Lennon is dedicated to individualized, patient-centered care. “My goal is to ensure patients feel heard and informed, so they can be empowered to take an active role in their care,” she says. She was drawn to medicine by a desire to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives and found in urology a field that offers a wide range of therapeutic options, behavioral, medical, and surgical, tailored to each patient’s condition and goals.

Overview

Marianne Casilla-Lennon, MD, is a general urologist. She cares for both men and women, treating such conditions as erectile dysfunction, kidney stones, overactive bladder, urinary incontinence and obstruction, overactive bladder, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and other prostatic diseases. She is skilled in both minimally invasive and open surgical techniques, as well as office-based procedures.

“I work with my patients to come up with a treatment plan specific to their condition and needs,” Dr. Casilla-Lennon says. “This individualized approach puts patients at ease because they play an active role in their care.”

Dr. Casilla-Lennon says she became a doctor because she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Specializing in urology provided the opportunity to help people with a diverse range of conditions, drawing upon an armamentarium of treatments. “Every day in practice is different, and we can treat people with behavioral changes, medications, and surgery when needed,” she says.

In addition to providing care to patients, Dr. Casilla-Lennon has done research in a variety of areas, including how health care affects both patients and doctors.
