Overview
Mariana Espinal, MD, is an obstetrician and maternal-fetal medicine specialist who cares for pregnant individuals with high-risk and medically complex pregnancies. She provides comprehensive prenatal care and advanced obstetric management to optimize outcomes for both mother and baby. She also performs diagnostic procedures such as chorionic villous sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis.
Dr. Espinal is an assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at Yale School of Medicine, where she combines clinical care with research and education. Her scholarly work focuses on improving maternal and neonatal outcomes, with particular interest in infectious diseases in pregnancy, including the management of pregnancies affected by HIV. She is particularly committed to improving access to high-quality obstetric care for vulnerable populations.
Originally from Venezuela, Dr. Espinal earned her medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by training in maternal-fetal medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
