Madeline McKean

Biography

Maddie is an MD/PhD student from Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, who graduated with a B.A. in Neuroscience and a minor in Education Studies from Middlebury College in 2022. At Middlebury, she worked in Professor Clinton Cave's lab investigating cell signaling during neurodevelopment, specifically the GPI-anchor cleaving protein GDE6's role in neural patterning and neurogenesis. Following college, she spent two years as a research assistant in Dr. Juliet Knowles's Lab at Stanford School of Medicine, studying myelin plasticity and how it contributes to epilepsy progression. At Yale, she hopes to study neurodevelopment and glial cell science.

Outside of science and medicine, Maddie was a collegiate swimmer and now enjoys coaching the sport. She also enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and crafting.
