Biography

After a Medical degree at Padua University, Italy (1987), Luca Fabris achieved his PhD at University of Milan, Italy (1997), by means of a research program developed at University of Birmingham, UK (1995-96). In 2005, he was nominated assistant Professor at the University of Padua, School of Medicine, promoted to associate Professor in Gastroenterology in 2016. Since 2023, Dr Fabris has been serving as Vice-President of the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Padua (English course). Over the last 25 years, he has focused his scientific interests on topics related to pathophysiology of chronic liver diseases, biliary in particular, both of inflammatory and neoplastic origin, mainly with translational studies.

From 2012, he has joined the Yale Liver Center faculty with an adjunct appointment (currently Associate Professor), where he is involved in the program of genetic biliary diseases, cancers and gender-specific differences in liver diseases.

From 2024, he is Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (FAASLD).

Currently, Dr Fabris is serving as Associate Editor for Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Basis of Disease, and as Editorial Board member of Hepatology, American Journal of Physiology – Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, and International Journal of Sex and Gender Medicine.

He has been serving as external expert and/or expert panelist of several European grant agencies (HCERES, NCN, COST, ERC among others).
