Biography

Leslie Hutchins is the Chief Nursing Information Officer at Yale New Haven Health, responsible for aligning the strategy and vision for nursing practice with the capabilities of digital health and information technology solutions. Key to this role is ensuring all voices are represented in both the decision making and planning process to support excellence and well-being in the safety, quality and human experience of our patients, families, and the clinical team.

Leslie holds a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) with a concentration in Management and Organizational Structure from the University of New Haven in Connecticut and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Rhode Island. Additionally, she has obtained her certification from the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) in both Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Executive track. With a strong commitment to both academic excellence and community engagement, she is an active member of the New England Nursing Informatics Consortium and the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Additionally, she contributes her expertise as a HIMSS Analytics Site Surveyor, evaluating Stage 6 and Stage 7 candidates.

Leslie began her nursing career working at the bedside in Obstetrics at Yale New Haven Hospital before taking an opportunity to join the clinical design team that implemented the first electronic medical record (EMR) with computerized physician order entry back in 1990. Since that time, she has been involved in the design and implementation of three different electronic health records.

Leslie develops and executes division-wide strategies to support improved clinical and business workflows that leverage digital technology solutions and innovation to advance the efficiency and accuracy of clinical practice and patient care. She functions as a knowledgeable practitioner, consultant, educator, and evaluator to maintain and improve system services, and mentor’s clinicians to become better technology consumers.

Current priorities include the use and governance of AI/Generative AI, strategies to address nurse well-being and modernizing the documentation experience and the development of new care model workflows.
