Overview
Jeffrey Schwartz, MD, is an associate professor of anesthesiology and program director emeritus of the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Yale School of Medicine.
He has specialized expertise in is thoracic anesthesia, vascular anesthesia, and high-risk anesthesia.
Dr. Schwartz received his medical degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 1985. After completing his residency in anesthesiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, he joined the Yale School of Medicine faculty as assistant professor of anesthesiology in 1989. He was director of medical student education for 17 years, and was director of Continuous Quality Improvement/Morbidity & Mortality for 12 years. For 13 years, he was program director of the residency program.
Dr. Schwartz has recruited, mentored, and educated almost 300 accomplished graduates and has worked to continually improve the residency program and resident wellness. His teaching interests, in addition to one-on-one teaching in the operating room include early clinical anesthesia education, resident remediation, and preparation for board certification. He twice received the department's Teacher of the Year award.
