Ilsa Otero is the associate director of clinical operations for dermatology, where she leads initiatives to optimize workflows, improve clinical operations, and enhance patient care.

What is your role within Yale Dermatology, and when did you join the department?

I serve as the Associate Director of Clinical Operations for Dermatology, overseeing operations, strategy, and the clinical processes that keep our practices running smoothly. I joined Yale in 2010 and became part of the Dermatology department in 2016, where I have continued to support the growth and evolution of our service line.

What inspired you to choose Yale?

I was inspired to join Yale because of its exceptional reputation, commitment to innovation, and strong, patient‑centered values. The opportunity to contribute to a respected academic institution and to collaborate with dedicated clinicians, researchers, and fellow operational leaders was incredibly motivating. Yale’s culture of learning and teamwork made it the perfect place to grow professionally.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I genuinely enjoy knowing that my work directly supports both patients and the teams who care for them. I find fulfillment in solving operational challenges, improving workflows, and helping create an environment where staff and providers can do their best work. The variety of my role keeps every day interesting, and seeing the impact of effective teamwork is incredibly rewarding.

What are you looking forward to most in 2026?

In 2026, I am looking forward to advancing new initiatives, improving patient access, and supporting the continued growth of our dermatology programs. I am excited about strengthening collaboration across our teams and pursuing opportunities that elevate both patient care and operational excellence. Personally, I am also looking forward to a year of learning and meaningful progress.

Do you have any hobbies?

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my family and dogs. Whether I’m exploring new places, diving into a great book, or relaxing with my loved ones, these moments help me recharge and stay balanced.
