Meet Jessica Beaudoin, Clinical Department Epic Utilization Specialist

2 Minute Read

What is your role in the Department of Internal Medicine?

I am an Epic Utilization Specialist & Educator on the Epic education team for Clinical Affairs. I work with Sinéad McKernan and Torrie Atwater to develop training and educational materials for the Yale Medicine (YM) credentialed clinicians within the Department of Internal Medicine.

Why did you decide to work at Yale School of Medicine?

I have been at the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) for over five years. I had the opportunity to shift gears in my health care career from an extremely busy clinical setting in Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine to a more administrative role, teaching and guiding the Internal Medicine clinicians. My role at YSM is more in line with my career goals, and I love having the opportunity to help the clinicians interact with Epic more efficiently.

Have you been in any projects that you are particularly proud of?

I really love our one-on-one new clinician training. We meet with every newly credentialed (or transferring) clinician throughout 11 sections of Internal Medicine. It’s a 60 to 90-minute virtual training where we review documenting and billing for patient encounters, tips, tricks, and best practices for Internal Medicine. This training is catered to the clinician's needs, whether they are brand new to Epic, or have used it in the past, whether they are a physician or advanced practice provider, and whether they will be working in ambulatory or inpatient care settings. We try to help equip the clinician with all the tools they need to navigate Epic before their start date!

What do you enjoy about being at Yale?

Working at Yale has been a wonderful experience. The Epic education team is just one part of an amazing, multi-layered Clinical Affairs team that makes working in Internal Medicine very easy! We work together as a whole to be a resource and advocate for our clinicians in relation to their clinical services and patient care endeavors.

What is a fun fact about you?

I used to be a professional cake decorator before my health care career! I still enjoy making cakes here and there for my family and friends!

What is one piece of advice you will never forget?

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.”

This advice reminds me of the importance of continuous learning and growth, and that progress is a journey. Your best efforts will change and improve over time.

The Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine is among the nation's premier departments, bringing together an elite cadre of clinicians, investigators, educators, and staff in one of the world's top medical schools. To learn more, visit Internal Medicine.
