The PRISMS Study

PRISMS stands for An Exploratory Study of the Potential for Rational Immune System Manipulation to Prevent Emergence of Synucleinopathy Manifestations in Persons with REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD).

The purpose of this study is to determine if a drug called adalimumab can reduce or prevent emergence or progression of synuclein-related neurodegeneration, or nerve cell death, in people with RBD. Your voluntary participation in this study would help researchers understand the progression of RBD into neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease or Lewy Body Dementia, and the effect of adalimumab injections, if any, on that process, compared to placebo.

Participants that enroll in the PRISMS study will be randomly assigned to either active study drug or placebo for a time of 2 years. During the study, participants will undergo study assessments, questionnaires, lab tests, and imaging.
