• 00:04Stem Cell Center at Yale
• 00:06has a big mission.
• 00:07We wanted to build a
• 00:08major center that will produce
• 00:10significant impact on improving human
• 00:13health. So how to achieve
• 00:14that? We had to build
• 00:15a center that's comprehensive, has
• 00:17a basic research component, then
• 00:18has a translational and clinical
• 00:20application component.
• 00:22We, in the past twenty
• 00:23years, have done great job
• 00:24building the basic research component,
• 00:26and now we are in
• 00:27the process of expanding onto
• 00:29translational and clinical side. So
• 00:31our vision is in the
• 00:32next ten years, this center
• 00:34will be truly
• 00:35comprehensive.
• 00:36We have, three great advantages
• 00:38to do that at Yale.
• 00:39One is Yale has such
• 00:41a amazing community of world
• 00:43class researchers, leaders in many,
• 00:45many fields.
• 00:46If there's any question you
• 00:47have, you can always find
• 00:49some expert on campus who
• 00:50can help you address that
• 00:52question. And the second advantage
• 00:53is that we have outstanding
• 00:55community of clinical researchers.
• 00:57Not only their clinical practice
• 00:59is amazing, but also they
• 01:01are very research savvy and
• 01:02they are very interested in
• 01:04collaborating
• 01:05with special scientists.
• 01:07And that is a amazing
• 01:08advantage we have and that
• 01:10we are led to stem
• 01:11cell center to further flourish
• 01:12into the clinical arena. And
• 01:14I must,
• 01:15point out the last
• 01:17advantage which certainly not at
• 01:19the least, Yale has an
• 01:21amazingly
• 01:21collaborative culture. Here we believe
• 01:24that collaboration can generate synergy.
• 01:27Only when we collaborate,
• 01:28we can generate one plus
• 01:30one, that's greater than two
• 01:32type of situation. And, I
• 01:34personally, in my centers,
• 01:36for development
• 01:37have benefit tremendously from this
• 01:39sculpture.
• 01:41I'm
• 01:42truly inspired by the potential
• 01:44of these new discoveries.
• 01:47The pure knowledge side,
• 01:48they might be readily applicable
• 01:50to help advance medical treatment,
• 01:53to save people's lives,
• 01:55and to improve people's quality
• 01:57of life. And all these
• 01:59so called lofty arms
• 02:01are really inspiring to me
• 02:03and, keep me going.
