  • 00:52The main trouble of this option
  • 00:54Is that it takes up large disk space.
  • 00:57So if you don't have enough resources on your computer,
  • 01:00you may want to try one of the following options.
  • 01:04Number Two.
  • 01:07The second option is to download SAS University Edition.
  • 01:11Again, use your browser to search SAS University Edition.
  • 01:16Since it's a virtual app,
  • 01:17and will need to install optimization software.
  • 01:21So it contains SAS Studio and Base App,
  • 01:23There are slight differences in the commands and display
  • 01:26that may pose problems later on.
  • 01:29So we suggest that you leave this as a last resort.
  • 01:33Number Three.
  • 01:36The third option is to access SAS at MyApps
  • 01:38on your virtual desktop.
  • 01:41MyApps at Yale is a virtual service that provides
  • 01:43access to Yale Windows space environment,
  • 01:45containing all Yale licensed software.

  • 03:41Click on it.
  • 03:45Once in the Yale desktop environment,
  • 03:48you will see a normal Windows environment,
  • 03:52and you can search for SAS in the file explorer.
  • 03:58Now we will continue with the instructions for Mac users,
  • 04:02and we will also provide some detailed instructions
  • 04:05on how to open SAS files once in the virtual desktop.
  • 04:14- [Narrator B] If you're a Mac user,
  • 04:16you also have several options
  • 04:17of how you can access SAS on your computer.
  • 04:21So first, you can download SAS directly on to your laptop,
  • 04:25however to do this,
  • 04:26you will need to first install Boot Camp or Perl or Windows
  • 04:31And then download SAS into the Windows environment,
  • 04:34because SAS is only supported by Windows, and not in Mac.
  • 04:38And be aware that this does take up a large disk space,
  • 04:42because you will need to
  • 04:43partition your laptop for Boot Camp,
  • 04:45or download Perl or Windows
  • 04:48on top of downloading the SAS software,
  • 04:50which is a big software.
  • 04:53Your second option is to download SAS University,
  • 04:56which unlike regular SAS,
  • 04:58SAS university is directly downloadable on a Mac.
  • 05:03But be aware that not all the commands in regular SAS
  • 05:07will be available in SAS University,
  • 05:10although this shouldn't be a problem for Y Speech Classes.
  • 05:13And also note that the display of SAS University
  • 05:17is slightly different from regular SAS
  • 05:20that we will show in class.
  • 05:23Your third option is to access SAS using MyApps at Yale.
  • 05:28Which is a virtual service
  • 05:30that provides access to Yale's Windows based environment.
  • 05:34So to do this,
  • 05:35you will need to first download
  • 05:37the Mac Remote Desktop Client from the Yale Software Library
  • 05:41as shown here.
  • 05:44So just click on this second option
  • 05:46which is the Mac OS Download
  • 05:48and then follow the installation instructions
  • 05:51on your MacBook.
  • 05:53After the download is completed,
  • 05:56you will then launch the application
  • 05:59and follow the instructions
  • 06:00on this web page,
  • 06:01which the link will be provided to you.
  • 06:05If you scroll down to the Mac Client Instructions
  • 06:10there are step by step guidelines of how you can add
  • 06:13the Yale Desktop Workspace.
  • 06:17So once you launch the application,
  • 06:20make sure you're in the PC's tab,
  • 06:22click the down arrow besides the plus button
  • 06:25and click add workspace.
  • 06:28And then when prompted,
  • 06:29enter the URL given on this website
  • 06:32as the workspace URL and click add.
  • 06:37After doing so,
  • 06:38you will be prompted to log in with your Yale email address.
  • 06:43You will then select your school, work or school account,
  • 06:47and then enter your netid password.
  • 06:50And after doing all of this,
  • 06:52you should be provided access
  • 06:55to the Yale desktop in the workspace.
  • 06:58And then the Yale desktop icon should appear.
  • 07:03So to access this desktop,
  • 07:05all you need to do is double click the icon,
  • 07:08sign in with your Yale email and netid password.
  • 07:16And this should take you
  • 07:17directly to the virtual environment.
  • 07:25To access SAS all you need to do is search for
  • 07:30SAS in the search bar,
  • 07:33and we will be using the SAS 9.4 version.
  • 07:40And then you will have access to the SAS software.
  • 07:44One important thing to note
  • 07:47is that all your personal files that you will read into SAS
  • 07:52and all your SAS files and other files
  • 07:54should be saved onto your OneDrive account
  • 07:58rather than this virtual environment such as the desktop
  • 08:01or the documents folder.
  • 08:04And I will show you how to upload a file onto OneDrive
  • 08:09and accessing it in this virtual environment.
  • 08:12So the nice thing about this virtual environment
  • 08:15is that you can always exit out of the full screen
  • 08:19and work in your native Mac environment as well.
  • 08:23So you should have the OneDrive account
  • 08:26associated with your Yale email address.
  • 08:37And then upload the file where you wish to upload
  • 08:41I am going to upload it in my documents folder.
  • 08:48So the file I just uploaded is called Anova lab
  • 08:52and then you can go back to your virtual environment.
  • 08:59In the file explorer,
  • 09:01you should see a OneDrive
  • 09:04tab on the left.
  • 09:08Follow the same path where you just saved your file,
  • 09:11and then you should see the file that you just uploaded.
  • 09:15So when you double click the SAS file,
  • 09:20this file should be launched
  • 09:22as so.
