Biography

Salem E. Hernández, MD, is a clinical fellow in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine. He is an NIH T32–funded research fellow and is pursuing a Master of Health Sciences in Medical Education at Yale. Dr. Hernández completed his internal medicine residency in the Osler Medical Training Program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he served as Assistant Chief of Service. His clinical and scholarly interests center on qualitative medical education research, ICU safety culture, and structured debriefing, with particular attention to trainee psychological outcomes, grit, and well-being in high-acuity clinical environments. He earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he was an Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholar, and prior to medicine served as Assistant Dean of Admission at Connecticut College.
