Overview
Neima Briggs, MD, PhD, is an internist and infectious diseases specialist with advanced training and clinical experience in tropical and travel medicine. He is a founding member of the Yale Travel and Tropical Medicine Clinic at the Yale Center for Infectious Diseases, where he provides comprehensive clinical services to both individuals seeking pre-travel advice and medical services, as well as the management of a broad spectrum of infectious illnesses.
Dr. Briggs serves as a clinical instructor at Yale School of Medicine and conducts active research studying host immune responses to parasitic infections, aiming to elucidate mechanisms of disease progression and develop novel diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines. He maintains ongoing research collaborations in Brazil and Honduras.
Dr. Briggs earned his medical and doctorate degrees from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed residency training in internal medicine, a fellowship in infectious diseases, and postdoctoral research fellowship in immunobiology at Yale School of Medicine.
He also holds a diploma in tropical medicine from the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health (CTropMed) from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
His work has been recognized with numerous honors, including a Fulbright Scholarship to Spain, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund/ASTMH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Tropical Medicine to Brazil, the Robert E. Leet and Clara Guthrie Patterson Trust Mentored Research Award, and the ASTMH Benjamin H. Kean Travel Fellowship to Honduras.
