Celebrating Love and Friendship at YSPH
Joseph Lewis, MPH '23, and Jessica Robles, MPH ' 23, have remained close to their Yale friends who not only attended their wedding, but aided Lewis’ plan to surprise Robles with an elaborate marriage proposal. Power Imbalance on Global Health Collaborations in Liberia
Global health collaborations, typically designed to address specific public health needs in low-resource settings, can be significantly affected by hierarchical power imbalances between participants. This can lead to participants from low-resource settings having a decreased opportunity to fully engage in decision-making and can allow for outcomes more likely to favor higher-resource groups. Investigators from Yale School of Medicine and the University of Liberia’s College of Health Services sought to better characterize the experiences of collaborators involved in global health work in the setting of post-war, post-Ebola Liberia.

After Ebola crisis, Yale works to strengthen Liberian health system
In 2014, the West African countries of Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone suffered the most severe outbreak of Ebola ever known. By the time the epidemic was contained in 2016, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates there were nearly 29,000 cases resulting in more than 11,000 deaths.

Kristina Talbert-Slagle ’10PhD: germ warfare
"A healthy body, like a healthy nation, contains many systems that need to work together in order to defend against threats," argues Talbert-Slagle, an associate research scientist at the School of Public Health and the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute. "A breakdown of these systems will render both a body and a nation susceptible to invasion—be it insurgency or infection."
