Sarah E Fitzpatrick, LCSW

Sarah E. Fitzpatrick, LCSW holds dual faculty appointments. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Yale’s Department of Psychiatry and Yale Child Study Center. In addition to her Yale affiliations, she has maintained an active private practice in New Haven since 2000. Her professional work is informed by psychodynamic, family systems and attachment theories. For over 25 years Ms. Fitzpatrick has partnered with a diverse range of individuals, clinicians and companies working to understand problematic dynamics and improve functioning. Aside from providing individual therapy and supervision, clinical specialty areas include family and couples work, parent-infant attachment therapy, perinatal therapeutic work and grief counseling for people struggling from protracted or sudden losses.

After training at the Menninger Clinic, Ms. Fitzpatrick moved to New Haven in 1998 to accept a Post-MSW Fellowship at Yale Psychiatric Institute. Between 1998-2005 she worked in adult mental health and substance abuse at Yale Behavioral Health Services in clinical, teaching and administrative capacities. In 2005, Ms. Fitzpatrick accepted a clinical position at Yale Child Study Center in the Minding the Baby program. She worked as a clinician, supervisor and trainer for program, as well as contributing to the program’s replication content and publications. Most recently she developed a foundational Bowen’s Family Systems lecture for Yale Child Study Center's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training Program. Ms. Fitzpatrick currently co-leads an ongoing Couples Therapy Seminar for Yale trainees and residents.
