More than 200 alumni from class years ending in 4s and 9s and their guests came from as far away as Washington state to reconnect with classmates, faculty, and friends during Reunion Weekend from May 31- June 1. Alumni returned to campus to celebrate their milestone reunions while creating new memories. Thank you to those of you who joined us!
The weekend kicked off with campus tours, where attendees saw the latest innovations at Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Robert Staszewski, MD ’84, said he wouldn’t mind going to medical school all over again--40 years after graduating from YSM. He and other attendees toured Brain Works, a cutting-edge facility that opened in 2023 for studying human brain function.
Alumni also heard about trends in medicine beyond Yale during Reunion, including the role of physicians in the business world. This year’s kickoff conversation hosted by Howard Forman, MD, MBA, professor of radiology & biomedical imaging, of public health (health policy), and of economics at Yale, featured Michael Sherling, MD ’02, MBA ’02, Vicente Diaz, MD ’05, MBA ’05, and Mallika Mendu, MD ‘09, MBA ’09.
We welcomed back former Dean of Student Affairs Nancy Angoff, MD ’90, who hosted a fireside chat with Mandy Cohen, MD ’05, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“In many of the ways that make a medical school exceptional, this has been a time of great achievement for Yale School of Medicine,” said Nancy J. Brown, MD, the Jean and David W. Wallace Dean of Yale School of Medicine. She delivered that message of progress and vision to alumni in her State of the School address.
This year’s all-alumni lunch included a special celebration honoring the legacy of Woody Lee, MD ’79, who was celebrating his 45th YSM reunion. The weekend also featured the time-honored tradition of class dinners.
