About
Research
Overview
In addition to her role as Associate Dean of Student Research, Dr. Sarwat Chaudhry is an accomplished outcomes researcher who has earned National and University honors, and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. She is Principal Investigator for multiple NIH-funded, large-scale studies.
A major focus of Dr. Chaudhry's efforts is diversifying the physician-scientist workforce. While strides have been made in diversifying medical school matriculants, this has not yet resulted in representation of racial and ethnic minorities, or those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, in the physician-scientist workforce. Dr. Chaudhry's team is developing studies to better understand individual and institutional factors related to physician scientist professional identity formation in medical students.
Dr. Chaudhry also leads work to improve the quality and safety of hospital-based care. She was the founding director of the Yale Center for Healthcare Innovation, Redesign, and Learning (CHIRAL), which focused on patient care transitions into, within, and out of the hospital setting. She is currently leading work to identify strategies to improve the outcomes of older patients hospitalized with acute cardiovascular conditions.
Dr. Chaudhry’s expertise in clinical study design and patient interventions, and her experience with establishing nation-wide recruitment networks, makes her an excellent teacher. She has mentored numerous junior faculty members, Internal Medicine residents, as well as students from the School of Medicine and Nursing interested in exploring clinical research.
