Biography
Dr. Matthew Steinfeld is a nationally recognized psychoanalytic educator and clinician, whose expertise centers on the provision of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in community-based clinical contexts. A past recipient of an APsaA Fellowship and the Psychoanalytic & Psychodynamic Teachers' Academy Fellowship in the American Psychoanalytic Association, he serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, the board of the The Sándor Ferenczi Center at The New School for Social Research, and is an incoming board member for the Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology (Division 39) in the American Psychological Association. Dr. Steinfeld’s scholarly, clinical, and research interests center on: clinical theory and technique in psychodynamic psychotherapy; the ways that social, political, and economic forces, intersecting with unconscious processes, affect the provision of community-based psychotherapeutic care; and the acoustic dimensions of psychotherapy. He serves as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and the Associate Director of Clinical Training at the Connecticut Mental Health Center’s Substance Abuse Treatment Unit.
