Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Dr. Heidi Hutman has over a decade of clinical and research experience in multilingual and international contexts. While in Canada, Dr. Hutman secured funding at provincial and federal levels, spearheading the development of several initiatives, including KidsCan!, a Health Canada funded drug prevention program that targeted elementary school students within the English Montreal School Board. She was also actively involved in a career intervention geared toward fostering intrinsic motivation for career exploration among at-risk youth. In addition, Dr. Hutman has practiced in hospital, university, educational, community, and private settings, providing her with an intimate understanding of how contextual factors shape the nature and scope of one’s clinical focus and target outcomes.
As an associate professor at Temple University serving as core faculty within the Counseling Psychology master's program, Dr. Hutman is passionate about clinical training and supervision. She has been successful in developing new opportunities for training, establishing partnerships between various training entities, as well as developing pedagogy for competency-based supervisor training. As a dedicated scholar, she is well-known for her expertise in this area and has published on this topic in numerous top-tiered peer-reviewed journals within her field, and has presented her work nationally and internationally. She has been awarded the Outstanding Publication Award twice by the Section on Supervision and Training of Division 17 of the American Psychological Association. She is actively involved in the Society of Counseling Psychology and the broader American Psychological Association (APA), serving as incoming chair of APA’s membership board. Additionally, she is on the editorial board of Training and Education in Professional Psychology. She is also the co-chair of the International Interdisciplinary Conference on Clinical Supervision.
Dr. Hutman is a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintains a small private practice where she supports diverse individuals as they navigate life transitions as well as relational, career, and familial concerns. She has authority to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology through PSYPACT.
