Wasser, Zhong to Receive APA's 2025 Manfred S. Guttmacher Award

Tobias Wasser, MD, associate professor adjunct of psychiatry, and Rocksheng Zhong, MD, MHS, lecturer in psychiatry, have been selected to receive the American Psychiatric Association’s 2025 Manfred S. Guttmacher Award.

Established in 1975, the award recognizes an outstanding contribution to the literature of forensic psychiatry in the form of a book, monograph, paper, or other work published or presented at a professional meeting. It is named for Manfred S. Guttmacher, a monumental figure in forensic psychiatry.

It includes a $1,000 honorarium, an honorary lecture, and a plaque to be presented at the APA Annual Meeting, which will be held in Los Angeles on May 17-21, 2025.

Wasser and Zhong are being honored for the book “Psychiatry and the Law: Basic Principles,” which they co-edited.

Wasser is professor and chair of psychiatry at Quinnipiac University's Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and chair of psychiatry and behavioral health for Hartford Healthcare's Fairfield Region. Zhong is associate professor and director of forensic services for the University of Texas Medical Branch’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
