The Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) Committee on Diversity and Health Equity will host a mini-conference, "Healing Through Choice and Action," on Tuesday, May 6th, from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm in the CMHC Auditorium at 34 Park Street.
Breakfast will be served at 8:30 am. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Dietra Hawkins will speak on micro-aggressions, micro-insults, and the power of validation. Dr. Hawkins specializes in appreciative approaches toward system change, recovery oriented systems of care, asset-based community development and inclusion, and the healing of racism.
Theatre of the Oppressed NYC, a group that inspires transformative action through theatre, will perform. The actors engage local communities, including the homeless, immigrants, and providers to create interactive plays inspired by real-life struggles.
Co-sponsors of this mini-conference include the Connecticut Mental Health Center, the CMHC Foundation, the Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health, the Community Services Network of Greater New Haven, and the CT Latino Behavioral Health System.
