Matthew Goldenberg, MD, MSc, associate professor of psychiatry, was elected president of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) on June 21 at the organization’s annual meeting in Pittsburgh.
ADMSEP is a national organization of psychiatric educators dedicated to the education of medical students in psychiatry and the behavioral sciences. Goldenberg has been an active member of ADMSEP since 2009 and has served on the organization’s executive council since 2019.
He has experience serving as psychiatry clerkship director at three institutions: Dartmouth, Uniformed Services University, and most recently Yale.
“I am honored to be the ADMSEP president and hope to have a positive impact on an organization that has meant so much to me over the years,” he said. “ADMSEP is a wonderful academic home for many of us clinician-educators, fostering community among its members, promoting excellence and creativity in teaching, and encouraging educational scholarship.”
Organizational themes for the next year are Connectedness, Transparency, and Innovation, Goldenberg said. Among his specific plans are the initiation of an organizational journal club focusing on medical education research; increasing organizational membership including outreach/recruitment of osteopathic medical schools; and strengthening existing mentoring and educational scholars’ programs.
Goldenberg’s presidential year will culminate with the 50th annual ADMSEP meeting in Boston in June 2025 when the theme (in homage to the history of the host city) will be “Revolutionizing Psychiatric Education.”
