  • 00:04So thanks for coming in to
  • 00:05see me today, Nikki. Thank you.
  • 00:07Thanks for being here. Yeah. All right.
  • 00:09I'm excited for this to be our
  • 00:11first session together so we can,
  • 00:13we can dive right in.
  • 00:14That sounds good. OK.
  • 00:15So one of the first things that I
  • 00:17wanted to actually talk with you
  • 00:19about is how I'd like to check in
  • 00:21with my students just in the first few
  • 00:23minutes where we're meeting together.
  • 00:24This is something that I do with
  • 00:26all the students who I meet with.
  • 00:27Really just want to get a sense of
  • 00:29how you're feeling before we dive in
  • 00:31and make sure we don't miss anything.
  • 00:33It's really important that the therapy
  • 00:35that you're getting here is working
  • 00:37for you and that it's helpful to you,
  • 00:39so it's good to check in on how you've
  • 00:41been feeling when we first meet.
  • 00:43So we'll be using a brief checklist
  • 00:46together and it has different types
  • 00:48of feelings that you can let me know
  • 00:50whether you've experienced them or not.
  • 00:52We've talked about worries and anxieties.
  • 00:54So those are the types of things
  • 00:56we're going to be working on.
  • 00:57And we can score it right here together.
  • 01:00Talk about your responses and then
  • 01:01figure out whether what we're planning
  • 01:03on talking about in session is going
  • 01:05to be helpful for you or whether we
  • 01:08might need to change some things up.
  • 01:10And that's Okay too.
  • 01:11Yeah, that sounds good.
  • 01:12Okay great.
  • 01:13Let me actually show you the one
  • 01:14that I'm thinking of.
  • 01:18It's called the GAD 7.
  • 01:19This one's really helpful because it
  • 01:22does have some symptoms that teens who are
  • 01:25experiencing anxiety sometimes report.
  • 01:27So it's pretty quick.
  • 01:28You can just fill this out in session,
  • 01:30or I could read them to you and and circle
  • 01:33whichever ones that you tell me to,
  • 01:35and then we'll just talk about your answers.
  • 01:37Okay. Yeah, that sounds good. Okay.
  • 01:39Great. What questions do you have so far?
  • 01:43So it's kind of like a quiz or a test.
  • 01:47That's a really good question.
  • 01:48So it's actually not like a quizzer test
  • 01:51because there's no right or wrong answers.
  • 01:53There's no grades that are tied to this.
  • 01:56And actually when we're meeting together,
  • 01:58you're going to be having some ups and downs.
  • 02:00We can expect that it's normal that
  • 02:02some weeks are going to be great
  • 02:04and other weeks might be harder.
  • 02:06So your answers on this might just go up
  • 02:08and down each time we see one another okay.
  • 02:11We're hoping that over time you're
  • 02:12starting to feel better and better
  • 02:14as we're meeting together.
  • 02:16And so this is just a way for you
  • 02:17to let me know how you're feeling.
  • 02:19And like I said,
  • 02:20we can decide if what we're doing
  • 02:22together is working or if we need
  • 02:23to change something up.
  • 02:24Okay,
  • 02:26What about, like mom or dad?
  • 02:27Will they have access to this?
  • 02:30That's such a good question.
  • 02:31So this, just like everything we work on,
  • 02:34stays in your chart with me.
  • 02:36And so your parents always have
  • 02:38access to that if they want.
  • 02:39But you and I will decide together
  • 02:41when feels right to share it with them.
  • 02:43I think we should probably just
  • 02:44get started and see how you feel.
  • 02:46First about it can be really
  • 02:48helpful for your parents to know
  • 02:50how things are going from your
  • 02:52perspective so they can support you.
  • 02:54And I may actually ask them to do
  • 02:56some checklist as well on their own,
  • 02:58but this won't be shared with your
  • 03:00teachers or any other clinicians
  • 03:01or anybody else in the school
  • 03:03unless you and your parents give
  • 03:05us permission to share it.
  • 03:07It's really just for us to use so that
  • 03:09we can get a sense of how you're doing
  • 03:11and how therapy is going for you.
  • 03:13OK, sounds good.
  • 03:14Do you want me to read them out
  • 03:15to you and you can fill them out
  • 03:16or do you want to go ahead and
  • 03:18fill it out yourself?
  • 03:19I think I can fill it out myself.
  • 03:21OK,
  • 03:21great. Go for it.
