The Fortessas occupy rooms that are specifically designated as BSL2 space for the purpose of sorting and analyzing unfixed human samples obtained from healthy individuals. While gloves are enough personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling non-human samples, it is important to remember that the analysis of unfixed human samples necessitates additional PPE (such as a face shield, to be provided by the user) and specific steps for equipment disinfection that are not required for other cytometers. It is crucial to prioritize personal protection in these rooms. Moreover, human samples from individuals known to be infected with HIV or HepB/C must be fixed before they can be analyzed on any cytometer, including the Fortessas.
