YSM Profile Image Banner

Watch a video about how to add a custom banner image at the top of your profile.

Adding a Banner to your Profile

The profile banner is an opportunity to personalize your profile with an impactful image that appears front and center. Some ideal types of images for profile banners are scientific imagery or photos that are directly relevant to your work at Yale. Because web profiles are published on a Yale website, there is an approval process before your image appears on the web. Please keep in mind that YSM Website Guidelines do apply to profiles and profile images. In a nutshell, images must be high resolution, be of professional quality, comply with HIPPA guidelines and refrain from displaying any animals. Microscopic images work particularly well.

Steps:

  1. Log into Beatrix.yale.edu
  2. Click on the People icon
  3. Click on Appearance in the light blue menu bar
  4. Scroll to the Profile Header section, either select an image from the media library or upload a high-res image from your computer
  5. When uploading a new image, be sure to include the image Title and Alt-text for Digital Accessibility.
  6. Choose between a short or tall banner height
  7. Adjust the crop for both the short or tall banner heights

YSM Profile Header Cards

Watch a video about the updated header section and how to choose what information will appear at the top of your profile.

Selecting Header Cards for your Profile

Header Cards display at the top of your profile to allow you to highlight what you consider the most important aspects of your work. These cards often link to more detailed information in the corresponding section of your profile.

There are two options available for the layout of the header cards: “Static,” and “Carousel.”

  • The static layout will show 1-3 cards at the top of your profile at all times.
  • The carousel layout allows up to 4 categories of cards, with 1-3 in each category.

Steps:

  1. Click on the Appearance tab.
  2. Scroll to the Header Cards section.
  3. Select either “Static” or “Carousel.”

Steps for Static Header cards:

  1. Click “Add new card” or the “Edit cards” button to start customizing.
  2. Choose up to 3 cards from any category by clicking the toggle button. (blue indicates it displays; red indicates it does not)
  3. If you have the maximum 3 cards but want to change one, first remove one by clicking on the toggle.
  4. Click the “Update button”
  5. Click the Preview button to see how the page will look.

Some cards may indicate that they have “No data.” If you select any of these cards, they will not appear on your web profile until there is information to display from your profile detail sections.

Steps for Carousel Header cards:

  1. Use the toggles under “Available Card Categories” to choose which card categories will appear.
  2. Each time you enable a category, you will be prompted to select the cards you want to appear in that category.
  3. Each category must have at least one card to appear on your web profile. You can select up to 4 categories.
  4. Click a selected category to change the cards that will appear on that section of the carousel.
  5. Drag and drop them to sort them in the order you’d like them to appear on your profile.
  6. Click the “Update button”
  7. Click the Preview button to see how the page will look.

Please note:

There may be a delay of a few minutes between when you make changes in Beatrix and when they appear on the preview page. If you don’t see your changes right away, try waiting a couple of minutes and then refreshing the page in your web browser.
