The local application of glutamate can capture and initiate the slow oscillation
Local picodrop application of glutamate results in the initiation of the slow oscillation from the application point and then the propagation away from this point. In this example, the slow oscillation normally propagated in one direction, with occasional backpropagation. Local application of glutamate results in the initation of the slow oscillation and propagation in the reverse direction. The autocorrelograms at the bottom demonstrate the periodicity of the activity and the propagation in the two directions.
