Clinical Care

Overview

Julie Dunn, APRN, cares for patients of all ages with gastrointestinal issues. She has special interests in colon cancer screening, irritable bowel syndrome, and women’s issues in gastroenterology, as well as general gastroenterology.

Dunn started her career as a staff nurse working mostly in a surgical/trauma intensive care unit before becoming interested in gastroenterology.

She enjoys working in this specialty because it allows her to nurture ongoing relationships with patients. “I believe developing rapport with patients is essential to providing comprehensive and compassionate care,” Dunn says. “Educating patients about procedures and disease states can make them feel more comfortable and better able to make informed decisions about their health care.”

She works together with each of her patients to individualize treatment plans that will work best for them and their lifestyle. “It is so rewarding to hear a patient say, “I feel so much better after talking with you,’” she says.

Dunn is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society, and the American College of Gastroenterology.
