Dialysis is life-saving treatment for individuals experiencing kidney failure. During the COVID-19 pandemic, patients were affected in many ways. In the new publication in Kidney Medicine led by Yale nephrology providers, the authors sought to understand the dialysis patient care experience during the pandemic.

Authors conducted a survey of 172 participants who were asked questions about their dialysis care team. The cohort also were evaluated using the PHQ-2 depression screening tool to gauge how COVID-19 affected their mental health.

The researchers learned that a majority of patients were satisfied with their care. Participants noted the importance of a strong support system, and select populations could benefit from additional support with care access.
