Thomas Balcezak, M.D., HS ’96, M.P.H. ’03, named chief medical officer at YNHH

Thomas Balcezak, M.D., HS ’96, M.P.H., has been named chief medical officer, Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is replacing Peter N. Herbert, M.D., who will become executive medical director of the newly created Concierge Medicine and Complex Cases Oct. 1.

Balcezak has spent the last 15 years in leadership positions at Yale-New Haven Hospital, serving most recently as senior vice president, Patient Safety and Quality, and associate chief of staff. As chief medical officer, he will be responsible for all aspects of medical staff affairs administration, graduate medical education, patient safety and clinical quality, accreditation and regulatory readiness, the Hospitalist service and Care Management. He will also co-lead Yale New Haven Health System's clinical redesign activities.
