Dr. Mehra Golshan Appointed Executive Vice Chair of Operations for Yale Surgery

August 27, 2021

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mehra Golshan as Executive Vice Chair of Operations. As EVCO, Dr. Golshan will function as a liaison to the Chair — and in support of Delivery Network Hospital leadership, Vice Chairs, Division Chiefs, and Section Chiefs — to promote the efficient and timely execution of day-to-day matters across the clinical and academic missions.

“Our department has grown exponentially in the past three years. It’s an exciting time. There’s a lot of energy, and a lot of activity. We need to make sure we’re positioned optimally to stay focused on the big picture, without compromising our daily responsibilities,” said Department of Surgery Chair, Nita Ahuja, MD, MBA.

“Dr. Golshan has played a pivotal role in our department over the past year. This is a natural integration into the formal leadership cabinet that I am confident will benefit everybody.”

Dr. Golshan, Professor of Surgery (surgical oncology) in the Section of Breast Surgery, first joined Yale in the summer of 2020, and serves as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center (YCC). In his first year — during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic — Dr. Golshan stepped in as Interim Section Chief for the Section of Breast Surgery, and recruited four faculty to the Section, including his official successor: Section Chief, Dr. Rachel Greenup.

When you move as quickly as we do in the Department of Surgery, it’s absolutely vital that the system is agile enough to support that momentum. That’s my job as EVCO — to help accelerate the bidirectional flow of information across the department, and especially among our senior leaders, so we’re not stuck in traffic jams or missing vital signals that keep our priorities on track.
