Figure 10. Illustrated here is the transition from the slow oscillation, recorded intracellularly in vivo, to a spike-wave cortical seizure. The transition to the seizure is associated with a marked increase in the discharge of the cortical neurons during the "UP" state. During the seizure, Spike-Wave activity is intermixed with tonic depolarization and runs of fast activity, similar to that occurring in the children with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. B-D illustrate portions of the trace in A at higher resolution.
