    Biography

Dr. Brisa Palikuqi is an Assistant Professor at the Yale Stem Cell Center and the Department of Comparative Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. Originally from Albania, she earned her Ph.D. at Weill Cornell Medicine in 2018 and in 2020 joined UCSF as a postdoctoral fellow .

In her independent lab at Yale, Brisa investigates the complexity of endothelial cell paracrine signaling in tissue repair, using both in vivo and in vitro models to uncover mechanisms that can be leveraged to drive regeneration on demand for precision medicine. She is the recipient of a K01 Career Development Award from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), as well as prior honors including the NIH F32 Kirschstein Fellowship, the Program in Breakthrough Biomedical Research Postdoctoral Grant and the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Fellowship.

    Research

    Overview

Tissue stem cells hold the great promise of inducing regeneration on demand. Work in our laboratory is focused on the emerging concept that endothelial cells serve as a supportive niche for regeneration. We study the role of blood and lymphatic endothelial cells in the intestine and colon in regenerative processes and gastrointestinal diseases. In parallel, we also work on developing complex human vascularized tissue and organoids to generate novel platforms for precision medicine and offer an avenue for tissue transplantation.

    Postdoctoral candidates

We have openings available for postdoctoral fellows with research interests in models of intestinal regeneration and disease, as well as nutrient absorption in the intestine. Candidates with backgrounds in computational biology, immunology, engineering, and metabolomics are strongly encouraged to apply. If you are interested in joining us, please send your CV and a short cover letter to Dr. Palikuqi at brisa.palikuqi@yale.edu. Your CV should include your past academic, professional, and research experiences, along with the names of three potential references. In your cover letter, please provide a brief summary of your PhD research, current research interests, and career goals.
