Integrated Graduate Program in Physical and Engineering Biology (IGPPEB)
Vision
The BBS Program, in conjunction with the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Yale Department of Physics, have created the Integrated Graduate Program in Physical and Engineering Biology (IGPPEB). This initiative trains a new cadre of scientists who excel at applying quantitative reasoning and methods to biological problems and who possess the biological sophistication to identify and analyze cutting-edge life-science questions.
Innovative components of the IGPPEB include a balance of students from physical and biological backgrounds; reciprocal peer tutoring in "boot camp"-style courses that will establish a common mathematical/physical and biological language; students learning together and from each other in introductory courses ("Biological Physics", "Methods and Logic in Interdisciplinary Research", and "Integrated Workshop"); an emphasis on the importance of computational approaches via introductory and advanced classes in computation and simulation; and joint mentoring by faculty from physics, engineering, and biology backgrounds.
How to Apply
BBS applicants who are interested in the IGPPEB should submit their applications to the Graduate School.
Applicants should select one of the below areas as their concentration on the application:
- Biochemistry, Quantitative Biology, Biophysics and Structural Biology
- Computational Biology and Biomedical Informatics
- Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics, and Development
- Neuroscience
- Translational Molecular Medicine, Pharmacology, and Physiology
-
Applicants should then choose the Integrated Graduate Program in Physical and Engineering Biology Program in the Special Programs drop down menu.
If offered admission into the BBS Program, IGPPEB applications will then be considered by the IGPPEB for participation in their program.
