INFORMATION FOR

    Human Genome Sciences

The overall goal of the Human Genome Sciences (HGS) track is to train the next generation of scientists in the areas of human genomics, genetics, and bioinformatics. We employ an integrative training approach that provides

    1. a strong foundation of basic knowledge in human genome biology,
    2. extensive hands-on training in the application of experimental and computational technologies for measuring and interpreting genomic information at scale, and
    3. a practical understanding of how to use genomic approaches to study, predict and diagnose human diseases.

HGS faculty members are drawn from multiple departments at Yale, including both basic and clinical departments, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the HGS program and the distributed nature of genomics expertise. The HGS curriculum is designed to recognize that the impact of human genomics extends beyond academic research into the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the healthcare system, so that graduates will be poised for successful careers in all sectors.
